EKHON TOKHON
SYNOPSIS
Kalyan, a young journalist, discovers the legendary nonagenarian Nirabala Debi's shanty in a non-descript dark lane of North Kolkata. An actress of repute from the pages of history, who prefers to stay away from the glare of the media. Her affection towards Kalyan finally makes her reveal some unknown facts about the history of cinema.
1929. A major transition period of the Bengali films. The silent era was making way for talkie films. It was an adventurous & challenging time for all. Sadananda, the proprietor of Kamakhya Pictures did not hesitate to jump into the fray. He kicked off a new film with his trusted & proven hit pair of the silent era, Baradakanto & Tarangini. Making a talkie film those days was easier said than done. It was nightmarish for director Nishith, music director Umapati and their unit members.
How the film was finally made, how the famous stage actress Brajabala's daughter Nirabala ventured into films, constitutes the play. The magnificent heritage of our films and the people is presented musically here, to share their success, failure, love, hate and eventual triumph.
